400 kV overhead line – replacement of damaged spacers

Recently, #AltergaTeam received an order from PSE to verify the correctness of spacer installation on the 400 kV Ostrołęka – Olsztyn overhead power line.

This power line was built about 10 years ago and currently it was necessary to inspect the installed spacers, which are one of the more problematic line accessories. Their incorrect installation can lead to damage to the working conductors, and consequently to their overheating and the possibility of switching off the line through a short circuit, which poses a real threat to human life.

During the work carried out, we repaired several damaged spacers. The moment of repair itself is not time-consuming, however, proper preparation for the task requires time and excellent planning. It is necessary to switch off the power line, admit, ground, pull in the trolleys and reach the specific spacer along the phase conductors through other, correctly installed elements. All spacers must be dismantled, the target spacer corrected, and then the remaining elements installed.
