220 kV Morzyczyn–Recław power line, Poland

Modernization of the Morzyczyn-Recław overhead line involving the change of the voltage from 110 kV to 220 kV

220 kV Morzyczyn–Recław power line, Poland

The Morzyczyn–Recław power line, built in 1983 as a 220 kV line, operated at 110 kV voltage for almost 40 years. #EltelNetworksTeam, using the provisions of the special transmission act, implemented the only voltage change in Poland from 110 kV to 220 kV on the Morzyczyn-Recław overhead power line for Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne.

LINE DETAILS

  • 72 km overhead power line
  • 220 power towers
  • line voltage change from 110 kV to 220 kV

CHALLENGE

As part of the contract, Eltel Networks began the modernization of the Morzyczyn-Recław overhead power line, which involved changing the line voltage from 110 kV to 220 kV. Our tasks consist of:

  • replacement of 3 lattice towers
  • strengthening power towers at 6 positions
  • painting 220 lattice towers
  • replacement of 72 km of OPGW cable on one track
  • adjustment of sagging work cables in 10 sections
  • protection and execution of 5 collisions of medium voltage (MV) lines with a 220 kV power line
  • cutting under the 220 kV power line over a length of approx. 25 km

Additionally, before starting the implementation works, #EltelNetworksTeam had to obtain the right to the land in the form of a transmission easement, 124A and 124 documents as well as expropriation based on a special act on the entire length of the line, i.e. 72 km in a 2×25 m strip.

EFFECT

The final result of our work was the modernization of the Morzyczyn-Recław overhead power line, which involved changing the line voltage from 110 kV to 220 kV. It was the only investment of this type carried out in Poland so far. Completion of the agreed scope of work and the use of a pioneering solution to adapt the 110 kV line to operate at 220 kV was possible thanks to the provisions of the special transmission act.
The investment contributed to strengthening the power supply in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship with a 220 kV power line, and thus increasing Poland’s energy security.
