Load test of the BESS Turośń Kościelna at the Narew substation

Load test of the BESS Turośń Kościelna at the Narew substation

At the end of June 2026, as part of the #AltergaTeam’s project to modernise the Narew substation for the commissioning of the Turośń Kościelna electricity storage facility, the long-awaited load test of the BESS Turośń Kościelna took place. The test was successful.

These activities followed on from earlier work involving the application of voltage to the busbar and the BESS Turośń Kościelna power line, which enabled the electrification of the Turośń Kościelna energy storage facility. This marks a major milestone in the connection of one of the first large-scale electricity storage facilities to the PSE S.A. substation.

The test involved the storage facility bringing successive batteries ready for operation online, which induced a current flow. On the day of the test, a current of over 400 A (approx. 80 MW) was induced, which, overall, represents approximately 40% of the total capacity of the entire storage facility.

During the works, the #AltergaTeam’s task was to check the directionality of the protection systems and the metering systems. We carried out these activities together with a representative of the subcontractor and PSE’s operations staff. Since then, the substation and the power line have been operating normally.

Another important aspect was the work involved in commissioning further battery banks and the full commissioning of the energy storage facility, including its integration into the PSE grid control system.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved in the implementation of this challenging project, in particular the staff of PSE S.A., led by project manager Damian Grądzki, as well as our designers, work crews, management and all members of the #AltergaTeam involved in this project.
